KTM RC 200 Expert Review
KTM RC 200
The KTM RC 200 harnesses the manufacturer’s legendary motorcycling DNA while offering a unique design at the same time. It could well become one of the most popular options in its segment.
How is the Design?
The KTM RC 200 comes with a whole new design template and a bigger front fascia. It is also quirky and eclectic which are two words synonymous with KTM. The stance is more commanding and upright this time with the front portion being larger and the windscreen getting a rounded look. The bike offers superior aerodynamics this time according to the brand and has an aggressive presence on the road. There is a full LED headlight with LED position lights and indicators accompanying it. The new fairing is a smooth touch while the tail comes with a longer appearance due to the newly designed rear seat and sleek LED brake lamp. There are new grab handles like the KTM Duke which will be welcomed by riders. There is the orange and black color theme along with another one in grey and orange. There are also foldable mirrors and foldable ends for the foot levers as well.
How is the Performance?
The KTM RC 200 comes with a liquid cooled 199.5 cc single cylinder engine and it makes 25 hp of power and 19.2 Nm of maximum torque. There is a bigger air-box, and this ensures a more powerful torque curve and throttle response alike. There is better heat management this time with a bigger radiator that is curved, and this will keep the bike cooler for longer durations. The engine also comes with shorter gearing although riders will have to exercise caution in staying within the power-band. It does come with handsome top speed and the engine is more engaging as compared to the 250 cc engine from KTM. The engine does offer more refinement and smoothness this time around.
How does the KTM RC 200 Ride?
The main frame stays the same although there is a subframe (bolt-on) and the steering geometry is also unchanged as a result. The fuel tank capacity is higher although the weight of the bike remains the same at 160kg. The USD 43mm fork comes with 10mm of additional travel although the rear stays absolutely similar. There is no adjustable feature for the suspension system with the exception being rear preload. The motorcycle can corner neatly although you feel the weight in some cases. Yet, it offers higher stability with a decent riding experience. The bike handles well while the lighter parts make it easier to switch directions. The softer spring at the rear does not pose a problem unless the rider is on the heavier side. The braking performance has also improved although a little more bite would have been welcome. Dual channel ABS is standard with the bike as well.
How comfortable is the KTM RC 200?
The KTM RC 200 offers a good riding experience with the foot-pegs being placed neatly and the clip-on bars being placed higher. This will please riders immensely while there are foldable ends for the foot levers. Riders can also lower the clip-ons by approximately 14.5 mm if they wish. The seats come with the same height (835 mm) although they are flatter and come with superior padding. They also offer greater comfort when compared to the previous version. There are also stylish covers which offer a plusher experience and good grip as well. The portion where the seat comes into contact with the fuel tank is now slimmer.
How’s the Tech?
The KTM RC 200 comes with dual channel ABS and an LCD display with more information on offer. This is bigger and easier to use.
How’s the mileage of the KTM RC 200?
The KTM RC 200 offers mileage of 31 kmpl approximately.
Is the KTM RC 200 good value for money?
The KTM RC 200 offers great value for money overall, with its brand value, design, power and performance, handling, and overall features. The motorcycle makes for a value buy for those looking for something sporty and comfortable with an aggressive stance and nice enough for those long-distance rides.
How is the after sales service?
The service intervals are 7,500 kilometres or a year and then 2 years or 15,000 kilometres (whichever comes earlier).
Which motorbikes compete in the segment?
The KTM RC 200 competes with rivals like the Yamaha MT-15 which is more affordable and comes with a smaller 155 cc engine as well. It may also take on its own sibling, KTM RC 390, which gets a bigger 373 cc engine that makes 42.9 BHP of maximum power and 37 Nm of peak torque. Some buyers would go for the bigger and more powerful RC 390 which also gets more features. However, the KTM RC 200 still makes a compelling case for itself.
Verdict (Value for Money)
The KTM RC 200 is a decent pick in its price band. It offers a sporty and refined experience as always, while there is improved comfort and decent features as well. The bike looks as stylish and unique as before, while the ride quality is also plush enough. KTM could continue witnessing a great success story with the RC 200 in the Indian market.
